Article by Phoenix writer Bella O’Donnell ’24:

If you love the wilderness, adventures, and being in the fresh air, the Kellenberg Hiking Club is perfect for you. Members are brought to Long Island’s East End. There they encounter rigorous, challenging hiking trails. Mr. Moran, the club’s moderator, brings members to places like Stillwell Woods Preserve, Harriman State Park, High Mountain Park Preserve, and more where they climb 2000 feet terrains and cross breathtaking rivers.

The club is a great opportunity for students to put themselves out there and make new friends. Students can also gather a group of their friends to experience the great outdoors together. This club teaches its members lifelong tools so that they can continue to hike in the future.

Students are taught how to follow a trail map and about New York’s outdoor terrains, wildlife, and plant life.

Junior Jack Collins stated, “I love hiking club because it’s an opportunity to see nature and all its glory without any distractions.”

Take advantage of the opportunity to explore the beautiful outdoors. Hiking Club can introduce a lifelong hobby for its members, and educate them on the great outdoors.

Permission slips for each hike are available to students the Monday before the hike. The hikes are first come first serve so sports fill up quickly. The first hike will be October 8. If a student is interested they should see Mr. Moran.
