Led by top ten finishes by sophomore Maureen Lewin and junior Nora Bennett, the “Lady Firebird” Cross Country squad finished second in the team race to winner Notre Dame Academy of Staten Island. Lewin ran a best ever time of 15:55 and Bennett ran her personal best ever of 16:02 on the fabled 2.5-mile Van Cortlandt Park course.
Following up on their sectional win, the team was again the dominant Long Island school competing. Personal best races as well turned in by Julia Bryant, Brianna Lausev, and Maya Richardson showed the team’s powerful peaked performance. The team qualifies as the top Long Island Catholic school for the New York Federation State Championship Meet at Bowdoin Park, Wappingers Falls on Nov. 19.
The JV squad led by Ceara Conroy and Clare Calabro took home the silver team plaque as well.
