Article by Phoenix writer Colleen Bayley ’23:

Kellenberg’s Model United Nations or Model U.N. is dedicated to discussing international diplomacy with a focus on the United Nations General Assembly. After years of combining the History Club with Model U.N. information, it was finally decided to divide into two separate clubs in 2018.

The club prepares students for numerous conferences throughout the year including ones at Hofstra University and the University of Connecticut. Students are taught the general procedures and how to pass a resolution similar to how United Nations members would.

The latest meeting was focused on writing resolutions on current world issues.

The club is run by history teachers Mrs. Riiska and Mr. Kennedy. Senior Matthew Meaney holds the position of Secretary General of the club, with assistance from senior Charles Kelleher.

When asked about the club, Matthew Meaney noted, “I enjoy meeting new people and learning about real life scenarios, especially learning how to resolve them.”

Any high school student is welcome to join any Tuesday in Room 101.
