Article by Phoenix writer Paulina Barnjak ’24:

On Saturday, October 1st, Kellenberg Memorial High School hosted its annual Open House from 10 AM -1 PM. This event invited potential students and their families to view the school and all it has to offer through tours led by the members of the National Honor Society.

Luke Ehrmann, a current 7th grader who went on one of these tours, mentioned, “My favorite thing I saw today was the science labs.” The labs to which he refers to are in the newly renovated Jim & Diane Rowen STEM Center, which was opened for student use in 2021. The Earth Science Lab in room 122 also underwent renovations last summer.

Another student on the tour, Joe Mullin, said he was interested in the basketball and wrestling programs Kellenberg had to offer.

John Fechtmann, Kellenberg’s Athletic Director, was thrilled with the number of students who showed up to this year’s open house.
“It was a great event, as it always is each year,” he started. “This year it seemed there were many people who braved the rain and displayed their interest in becoming Firebirds in the future. From an athletic standpoint, it is a chance for us to show off our very large and competitive athletic program to our prospective students. Our coaches and athletes look forward to this day every year.”

Kellenberg Memorial lives by the motto, “One Heart, One Mind”, demonstrating the emphasis on the education of the body, mind, and spirit to students through academic opportunities, co-curriculars, extracurriculars, athletics, and so much more.

Brother Kenneth Hoagland, the principal of Kellenberg, said in his Sunday letter, “The energy was palpable on campus as hundreds of volunteer students and parents joined the faculty and staff to demonstrate the richness of our Marianist Education and the benefits of a qualitative education of the mind and heart.”

If a student is considering Kellenberg Memorial High School but missed the open house, there is still the option of scheduling a private tour on the school website at https://www.kellenberg.org/tour/. Parents who have questions on admissions can contact mrobrien@kellenberg.org for the high school and latinschooladmissions@kellenberg.org for the Latin School.
