Latin School Science Olympiad Captures 3rd in Regional Competition

This past weekend, the Bro. Joseph C. Fox Latin School’s Science Olympiad team participated in the Western Nassau Regional Division B Science Olympiad competition at Division Avenue High School in Levittown. The team took 3rd place, medaling in 14 out of 26 events, to earn a slot in the New York State competition to be held in Syracuse in April.

Lauren DeRiggi and Meaghan O’Keefe won 1st place for “Crime Busters.” Ara San Antonio and Francesca Mango won 1st place for “Tower Building.” Aline Asarian and Ara San Antonio came in 2nd place for “Parasitology.” For the “Write It Do It” competition, Ara San Antonio and Brian Sessa came in 3rd place. Meaghan O’Keefe and Hailey Pitcher came in 4th place for “Disease Detectives” and “Rocks and Minerals.” Also in 4th place, James Cross and Brian Sessa won the “Duct Tape Challenge.” In the “Ecology” category Brian Sessa and Joseph Shammus came in 7th place. Andrew Brites and Meaghan O’Keefe came in 8th place for “Meteorology.” Lauren Dunne and Lauren McCarthy came in 9th place for both “Fast Facts” and “Roller Coaster.” Andrew Brites and James Cross came in 10th place for “Thermodynamics,” and Lauren DeRiggi and Francesca Mango came in 10th for “Potions and Poisons.” The team took 3rd out of 40 teams in the Western Nassau Division—the largest divisional region in New York State.
