Last week, the Latin School Marianist Mentors went upstate to Founders Hollow on Retreat. They, like the Freshman Marianist Mentors, took a spiritual journey using the classic video The Wizard of Oz. They also saw how the triads of the Enneagram are the focus of the 3 companions of Dorothy. The Scarecrow seeks a brain, the Tinman longs for a heart, and the Lion desires courage. The Wizard, clearly a 3 personality type in the Enneagram, is accused of being a bad man by Dorothy after he is proven to be a fraud. Humbled, he tells Dorothy that he is just a bad wizard. He makes good on his promises and validates the desires of the Scarecrow, Tinman, and Lion, telling them that they already demonstrated that they possessed the very things they were looking for. In similar fashion, the Marianist Mentors, through the gifts they made for their Kris Kringle, validated the spiritual and moral gifts of each other. All enjoyed their stay at Founders Hollow and immensely enjoyed the company of one another throughout this spiritual journey.
