Very early on January 18, 2018, many Kellenberg Memorial juniors embarked on a trip to Washington, D.C. The students were accompanied by Bro. Michael Gillen S.M., Fr. Thomas Cardone, S.M., and faculty chaperones Mr. and Mrs. Finn, Miss Vigario, and Miss Lawrence. On the journey to Washington, students partook in a prayer led by the students on the bus. While in Washington, Kellenberg students visited the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This was a very educational and important process for the Juniors because they are currently studying the Holocaust through the book, Man’s Search for Meaning, by Viktor Frankl.

After the experiencing the museum, students toured the city’s monuments and were able to get very close to the Lincoln Memorial. The following morning, students toured the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception seeing and taking in all of its beauty. The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is the largest Catholic Church in the United States and North America. The students also celebrated Mass, led by Father Tom, in one of the exquisite chapels in this Church.
The most important event of the trip was the marching in the March for Life. The annual March for Life took place on January 19, 2018. This is a peaceful march protesting abortion and fighting for the sanctity and respect of all lives. March for Life first began in 1974 and takes place in Washington D.C. every year. The theme of the 2018 march was, “Love saves lives.”
Excited Kellenberg students were very easily spotted with their blue and gold Kellenberg hats and scarves. The students very eagerly defended and fought for the lives of the unborn children of God. After the March, the students had a prayer service at St. Joseph’s on Capitol Hill Catholic Church, led by Bishop Barres. Kellenberg students enjoyed their experience and were very grateful to be able to participate in such a meaningful event.
