Article by Phoenix writer Brooke Oldenborg ’26:

Last month, Kellenberg hosted two communion breakfasts for all grades to partake in. The first breakfast was held on March 17 for the sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth graders, and the second was held on March 24 for Kellenberg’s sophomores and upperclassmen.

The younger-classmen and their families participated in a beautiful mass said by Fr. Thomas Cardone, S.M., which was followed by breakfast. The special guest speaker of this event was Deacon Kevin McCormack who emphasized the cruciality of prioritizing a catholic education and the appreciation those at Kellenberg should feel to receive one. Deacon Kevin expressed his views on how the future leaders of the church are those who make an effort and a difference in their faith now, all starting with their education.

Similarly, the upperclassmen and sophomores participated in a special mass from Fr. Daniel Griffin and breakfast. On the other hand, their guest speaker was Carol Silva, a former News 12 anchor. She described the rejection she first faced within her career and how she ended up right where she needed to be. Carol emphasized the willingness to trust God through trials, which inevitably led her to be in the best possible place.

Sophomore Talene Mastacciuola shares, “As many of Kellenberg’s masses happen during the school day, it was exceptionally nice being able to share a mass at school with my family.”

Both events were amazing opportunities for students to share their school and faith life with their family, friends and loved ones. Students, parents, grandparents, and teachers united as one Marianist community to celebrate the Eucharist.
