Article by Phoenix writer Mika-Ella Accardi ’25:

Kellenberg’s Varsity Dance Team brought the heat to Orlando, Florida as they competed in the NDA High School National Dance Competition from March 7th to the 11th. The team made it to finals in all four small varsity categories. Overall, they placed 7th in Team, 11th in Hip Hop, 15th in Pom, and 19th in Jazz.

Since August, the team has been perfecting their Nationals routines, choreographed by Matthew Kirschenheiter, an assistant coach for St. John’s University Dance Team. Many preparations and long practices led them to the stage at Nationals. The team’s hard work and dedication was shown through their outstanding performances.

When asked about her experience competing at Nationals, junior Payton Saunders stated, “Representing Kellenberg at the NDA Nationals was such a surreal experience. You never truly know how it will feel to dance and perform in front of so many people until you’re in the moment. I had such a great time growing closer with my teammates and making memories that I will never forget. It was truly the best way to end such an amazing season.”

The team’s six seniors gave it their all to make their final performance on stage the greatest. Senior Lindsay Trum said, “Spending my senior season with this team was a phenomenal experience. Having our work pay off at Nationals was so rewarding. Special is an understatement for this team. This team will hold a special place in my heart forever. I’m so proud of everything we’ve accomplished, and I can’t wait to see how this program will continue to grow.”

The team’s journey to Nationals was filled with commitment, countless hours of practice, and amazing memories. Congratulations to the team on an unforgettable performance.
